GM Press Release Photo – 1960 Impala Sport Sedan
Here’s another 8×10 “press kit” photo from GM Photographic. This one dated September 29, 1959 on the back. It doesn’t have a typed description attachment like the others. It has extensive editing done to it by the art department of whatever newspaper or magazine it was delivered to, which unfortunately detracts from it a bit. I’ve also taken the liberty of using Photoshop to touch-up some damage to the photo so it’s at least somewhat presentable. 2048 pixel wide resolution is available by clicking the photo, then the 2048x link above.
Note that the car in this picture is actually a pre-production mock-up. There are no seams between the rocker panel and the front fender, or between the rear valance panels and the quarter panel. Gaps between the aluminum and stainless steel trim are very tight. The fit and finish is “perfect”, far better than a production vehicle. I believe these cars had fiberglass bodies and were not driveable, but I could be wrong. If anybody knows more about this subject please let me know.
